Huawei is about to unveil the Mate 30. The Mate 30 will not have Google services.
The Google brand and its services have been heralded as a backbone to the global smartphone business. Huawei’s unveiling of the Mate 30 without the use of Google Services will show how important Google is to the company.
The Chinese company will launch its smartphone in Munich today. The Mate 30 will be the first Huawei smartphone to hit the market after the U.S put it on a trade blacklist. The blacklist cut off its access to the Google Playstore and other apps such as Google Maps and YouTube.
The Mate 30 phones will have Google’s open source Android operating system. The phone won’t have access to the Google Play Store and third party apps that require and rely on Google Maps would also no longer function.
REVENUE
Last year, Huawei’s revenue consisted of mostly smartphones and other heavily patronized consumer products like TVs, speakerphones etc. Without the access to very popular apps, the Huawei phones are becoming increasingly unappealing to its international customers.
Rent Zhengfei, the founder and CEO said the company’s global smartphone sales fell by a whopping forty percent(40%) after the U.S ban was put in place.
Huawei phones are very popular in Europe where their high-end phones are in popular demand. The Mate and P series have found huge success in Europe.
IMPACT OF THE BAN
While the Mate 30 will still be able to compete in China, analysts say it will struggle in other parts of the world due to the lack of Google Playstore with Huawei’s business in Europe being particularly shakey.
SPECULATIONS
Analysts are already predicting how hard it will be to convince users to purchase a premium smartphone without access to Google services.
The Huawei Mate 30 series is expected to have a better camera system will come with its new Kirin 990 chipset.
Leaked photos show the Mate 30 and 30 Pro with four Leica cameras on the back within a circular cutout. If this is true, it might still intrigue users since it is one camera more than the heralded iPhone 11. (Click here for more)
