An accident that occurred this morning on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway at 12:15 has left thirty-four people dead. Several others also have various degrees of injuries.
According to the police report, 29 people died on the spot of the accident while the five others died at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
Eyewitnesses of the accident said both drivers died instantly. One of the drivers had his body trapped in the seriously mangled vehicle.
The grisly accident involved two long Yutong buses which had a head-on collision while on the Dompoase Junction near Komenda Junction.
The red Yutong bus travelling from Accra to Takoradi tried to overtake the vehicle in front of it and ended up running into the oncoming white Takoradi to Accra bound Yutong bus.
The police are yet to ascertain the number of passengers on the badly mangled Takoradi bound car.
Officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and police were on hand to rescue some of the injured persons.
