The most prestigious award for football players, Ballon D’or has been cancelled for this year, France Football has announced.
According to a statement, the Ballon D’or will not be awarded this year because of the impact of the global pandemic, COVID-19 on the sport this season.
A statement read: “In exceptional circumstances, exceptional provisions. For the first time in its history, which began in 1956, the Ballon d’Or France Football will not be awarded in 2020, for lack of sufficient fair conditions.”
Argentina and Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi is the previous winner of the award with a record of six Ballon D’or accolades, one more than his biggest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.
