COVID-19 cases rise in Accra Girls Secondary School

Accra Girls’ Senior High School has been in the news for the past few days over COVID-19 issues. 6 students were said to have tested positively for the virus. Information made available indicates that a teacher and spouse have both tested positive for COVID-19. The two cases bring the case count in the school to eight, according to a statement issued jointly by the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service.

The statement read:

The Ghana Education Service (GES) received reports of suspected cases of COVID-19 from some second-cycle institutions, including Accra Girls’ Senior High school...

The Ghana Health Service was subsequently notified of the situation…

As of 6 July 2020, six (6) students, a teacher and spouse have been confirmed as positive for COVID-19 in Accra Girls Senior High School.

All eight patients have been isolated at a treatment centre for management of COVID-19. Also all contacts of the confirmed cases have been duly identified and separated from non-contacts while the testing of all contacts of confirmed cases has began.
