Mother who gave birth to disabled girl after using Russian sperm bank was told to take her child to an orphanage and leave her there.
Borodulina who desperately wanted a child, decided to visit a sperm bank because her new husband,Sergio was sterile. Borodulina got pregnant successfully but gave birth to a child with spinal muscular atrophy, a disease that causes muscles to waste away. Ms Borodulina is now suing the clinic for medical bills for her daughter Nika.
Russian medics suggested that Borodulina abandon her baby daughter after the girl was born with the severe genetic condition.
Ms Borodulina claims she was promised a ‘normal, healthy child’. She also says the expensive medical treatment for her daughter and the stress it brought broke up her marriage.
She is now suing the clinic in Chelyabinsk to pay for the treatments her daughter needs.

‘I went through all the tests they prescribed for me, sparing no money, because it was about the health of my child.’
‘I asked the question: Are your donors checked? The doctor told [me] that yes, they were checked,’ she said.
Nika’s condition started to become apparent at the age of four months. She became sluggish and could not hold her head up.
A neurologist examined Nika and told her mother to ‘Prepare a coffin for a child.’
She then went to confront the clinic. She was told there to place the disabled child in an orphanage and ‘try again for free’ with a new donor who would be tested outside of Russia
