The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has expressed its disappointment in the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for their decision to award StarTimes TV the rights to the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup.
The nations premier broadcaster GBC says even though they gave a “superior financial offer” than their competitors StarTimes, the GFA decided to deny them the rights to the games.
In a statement released a few moments ago, GBC states that “StarTimes emerged winners of the competitive bidding process after the GFA accepted their offer”. According to the GFA, StarTimes’ offer was the best among the other bids.
The StarTimes offered to pay only USD1,050,000 annually while GBC made a financial
offer of USD1,100,000 annually. Considering that GBC was willing to pay more than StarTimes, it was a shock the the Ghanaian Broadcasting company when the GFA did not award them the rights.
In the statement made by the Director of Corporate Affairs for GBC Ms. Mamle Asare, GBC was under the impression that apart “from GBC’s superior financial offer, we thought that the Premier League and FA Cup content would have been treated like a national treasure and given to the national broadcaster and a consortium of local broadcasters.”
GBC wishes to put it on public record that the national broadcaster and
the local TV Consortium have been treated unfairly and unjustly. The GFA
decision will gravely impact on Ghanaians’ access to the Ghana Premier
League and FA Cup live games on Free-to-Air (FTA) broadcast.– GBC
Sports broadcasters and concerned citizens alike shared their thoughts in the issue.

The point on giving the rights to a national broadcaster is a strong one, especially so when we are trying to rekindle the love & passion for the league. A national broadcaster will help a great deal

I guess nothing has change at the @ghanafaofficial

Before it might have been about the money, but it's about the quality and class.
Not disappointed at all, GBC should just improve on their production.— G O O D W I L L (@Collinskodua) January 9, 2020
Might be very disappointing indeed, aside all factors, how's this different from the "Patronize Made In Ghana" campaign? If we aren't hypocrites. Where was StarTimes when GBC helped us loved the game? Remember your first love. https://t.co/5zILJuO0am

According to GBC they outbidded Startimes! Let’s say it’s a lie
Why can’t the GFA give GBC some matches to air and give Startimes too same just to promote the league!
Remember it’s two competitions, the league and FA Cup https://t.co/rznu4XRGkQ— Kelewele Joint 🍟 (@Ankamagyimi) January 9, 2020
This is a developing story.
