The coronavirus epidemic has affected 16 people in the country so far. Currently, the virus has affected the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions. The virus has not only spread a illness but has also created awareness about words and phrases such as “social distancing,” & “self-quarantine”.
The media houses and watchgroups are working actively to spread awareness about self-distancing. Read this article to find out how to effectively practice social distancing.
What is Social Distancing?
Social distancing is intentionally increasing the measurable physical space between people to avoid spreading an illness. Reports indicate that staying at least six feet away from other people will lessen your chances of catching COVID-19. In the case of COVID-19 all forms of social distancing should last for about 14 days. This will be enough time for potential symptoms to show up/manifest.
Forms Of Social Distancing
* Self-quarantine
Self-quarantine is when you may be feeling very good but make the decision separate yourself from family and colleagues because you feel there may be a high chance you’ve been exposed to a disease like COVID-19.
* Self-isolation
Self-isolation happens when you may have some symptoms of a particularly dangerous disease and don’t want to get others sick.
Ways To Practice Social Distancing
- If possible, work from your home instead of the office which may expose you to others.
- Schools should close and switch to online classes and tutorship.
- Thinking of making a visit to others? Make it a video call.
What To Do If You Still Have To Go To Work or School
For schools:
- If necessary, gatherings should be held in small groups.
- Alter schedules to reduce student mixing. Stagger recess and entry/dismissal times.
- Limit interactions with other schools.
- Consider distance learning or e-learning in some cases.
At work:
- Increase the physical space between workers.
- Stagger work schedules.
- Reduce workplace social contacts. Limit in-person meetings, lunch meet-ups, staff meetings and after-work hangouts.
