Jordan Ayew breaks 24 year old EPL record
The once prodigal son of the country is quickly becoming a darling boy.
Ghana international Jordan Ayew has surpassed Tony Yeboah to become the highest scoring Ghanaian footballer in the English Premier League since its inception.
The 28-year-old’s strike against AFC Bournemouth in the week 30 clash at the Vitality Stadium this evening has increased his goal tally to 25.
He equalled Yeboah’s 24 goals before the English Premier League was halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Legendary Tony Yeboah had held the highest scoring record since 1996 after spending two seasons at Leeds United.
He netted 24 goals in his 47 Premier League appearances for Leeds United during his stay at the club.
Ayew has achieved the feat which has been held by Yeboah for over two decades after 129 matches with three English top-flight sides namely Aston Villa, Swansea City and Crystal Palace.
He bagged seven and eight goals for Aston Villa and Swansea City respectively during his stints at the two clubs now in the Championship. At Crystal Palace, he has netted 10 goals for the Eagles.
