Kanye West has stepped to help the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, three unarmed black Americans whose unrelated killings have sparked protests internationally and in the country.
According to TMZ, West donated $2 million to the three families and even went further to set up a college fund for Gianna Floyd- George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter . Kanye West also made separate donations towards the legal fees for Breonna Taylor who was shot dead by police in her home, and Arbery, who was shot dead by 2 white men while jogging in his neighbourhood.
A TMZ rep went on to say that West has donated to black-owned businesses across the country, including those in his hometown of Chicago. The donations from West, a newly declared billionaire, come after fans and musicians have criticized major labels and streaming services for their lack of public donations to racial justice causes and engagement in anti-racist activism. West follows boxer Floyd Mayweather, who previously donated to cover four funeral services for Floyd’s family.
