The 2019 awards ceremony for the Confederation of African Football (Caf) will take place in Egypt, (homeland of the current player of the year Mohamed Salah) at Hurghada.
Three countries’ top stars are competing for the grand prize. Liverpool’s Mane(Senegal) and Egypt’s Salah are up for the prize along with Algeria’s star Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City).
Salah, the Egyptian striker is tipped to win the prize for a third successive time. Mahrez captained the Algeria team to their Nations Cup success in Egypt in 2019. Mane also helped Senegal reach the final.
Women’s Shortlist
The women’s shortlist has also been narrowed down to three names.
Ajara Nchout – Cameroon / Valerenga
Asisat Oshoala – Nigeria / Barcelona
Thembi Kgatlana – South Africa / Beijing Phoenix FC star
Final Voting Phase
The final phase of voting for the men’s and women’s Player of the Year, as well as the male and female Coach of the Year, will be selected by head coaches/technical directors and captains of senior national teams from Caf member associations.
