Markets to close down by Monday – Accra MCE

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive has stated that markets in Accra will be closed down by Monday.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM Eye Witness News, the Mayor further explained that the closure of the markets will be necessary to enable them( Metropolitan Assembly) spray disinfectants in those areas to kill any trace of viruses of the new global pandemic disease COVID-19.

He continued that the markets will be closed on only Monday in Accra and continued in other market areas from Tuesday onwards.

In the interview, he mentioned that schools, churches and mosques will also be fumigated. The decision to fumigate these public places came after a meeting with leaders of market places.

To improve public awareness, six (6) public address systems were dispatched to central Accra. A press statement was also released.

The fumigation process will have every portion of these places doused in the appropriate chemicals.
