Kofi Appiah, the Assistant Headmaster of the Ejisu Senior High Technical School (ESHTS) has admitted to punishing students cruelly in a video making rounds on social media.
The video was recorded by the Nkosuohene of Ejisu, Nana Kofi Poku. According to Nana Kofi Poku he was making a journey when he saw three figures along the road. He said he initially thought they were sheep but once he increased the intensity of his headlights, he was shocked to see three boys crawling by the road. He asked the students why they were crawling and they replied saying they had been punished by the assistant headmaster who caught them eating very late in front of their dormitory.
They said the headmaster then told them to follow him out of the school while crawling on their knees on the gravel road. The Nkosuohene later confronted Mr Appiah who admitted on video to subjecting the students to such a horrible ordeal. Mr Appiah said he did in fact ask them to crawl after him as punishment for eating late at night.
In an interview with JoyNews, Nana Kofi Poku also recounted another incident where the assistant headmaster made students who had defecated in a bush go back to scoop their faeces with their bare hands and then making a walk of shame back to the schools campus.
On July 21, Kofi Appiah, admitted to actually locking two students up in his office for allegedly stealing an electric stabiliser. Unfortunately, one of the detainees attempted suicide while being confined in the office.
Following Nana Kofi Poku’s experience, he and other members of the community are expressing concern about the teachers actions and the chief also said “We don’t want this man in our society. We don’t want him here,”
