UG Vice Chancellor denies sexual harassment allegations
Prof Ebenezer Oduro Owusu

Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof Ebenezer Owusu is fighting off allegations of sexual harassment made against him by the CEO of Africa Integras, Andrea Pizziconi.

He told Joy News on Thursday that her allegations are frivolous.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Andrea Pizziconi is bitter because he put her contract with the country’s premier university on hold.

“You just have to treat this with the contempt that it deserves…personally, I will describe her as somebody who is bitter and extremely angry,” he said.

Prof Oduro Owusu said she is full of anger and frustrated because she intended to invest $64 million and make a return of $25 million every year from UG for the next 25 years. However, the deal suffered a setback as it was put on hold.

In a tweet, Andrea Pizziconi alleged that the BBC Africa Eye’s ‘Sex for grade’ documentary which implicated two lecturers of the university for sexually harassing students resonates deeply with her.

Stay away from emergency contraceptives – Youth advised

The youth have been cautioned against the use of emergency contraceptives as they were not designed to be used on regular basis and their abuse could be detrimental to one’s health.

Mr Michael Tagoe, the Youth Programme Officer of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), for the Western and Central Regions, expressed worry that the misuse of contraceptives was high among the youth and could have dire consequences to their reproductive system.

He was addressing some members of faith-based youth groups at a capacity building workshop on “Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR),” at Twifo Hemang in the Central Region.

Mr Tagoe said the youth must be educated on their reproductive sexuality and its related issues to equip them with knowledge, which would also help in reducing sexually transmitted infections.

The unwholesome goods (left) being destroyed by Customs officials at Aflao

Five truckloads of unwholesome goods worth over GH¢1.8 million in customs duty have been destroyed by officials of the Aflao Sector Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The items included expired canned and bottled beverages, drugs such as aphrodisiacs and fake electrical appliances.

The exercise which was carried out last Wednesday was part of the Division’s activities to curb the influx of unwholesome goods that are illegally brought into the country.

Briefing the Daily Graphic during the exercise, the Customs Revenue Officer of the division, CRO Amandi Majeed, said the outright prohibition of the seized items was as a result of the  collaboration between the Customs Division, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to ensure that consumables were safe for public consumption.

He called on the public to look out for expiry dates and the genuineness of the things they bought, adding that they must rely on local pharmaceutical companies rather than purchasing drugs from unknown foreign manufacturing companies.

“When considering buying drugs, get the right prescription from the doctor, our health and safety should be a priority,” he added.

Dr Obengfo (R) examining one of his clients before liposuction

The Chief Executive of Advanced Body Sculpt Centre, also known as Obengfo Hospital, Dr Dominic Obeng-Andoh, has asked Ghanaians not to be concerned about his certificate in liposuction but the quality of his work.

According to him, those questioning his competence as a liposuctionist are only being mischievous and that “my products are so visible.”

Dr Obeng-Andoh, also known as Obengfo was on Tuesday acquitted by the Accra High Court on charges of practising medicine without a licence and operating an unlicensed medical facility.

The court upheld the submission of “no case” filed by his lawyers on the basis that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt by presenting insufficient evidence and witnesses whose testimonies were riddled with inconsistencies.
