Ofiicer Dennis Turner arrested a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old in unrelated incidents. Officer Turner was working as a School Resource Officer when he made the arrests.
The arrest of any person under the age of 12 requires the approval of a watch commander, Officer Turner did not obtain a watch commander before making his arrests.
At the Juvenile Assessment Center, the 8-year-old was processed then released to waiting family. There was no statement about what the child actually did.
Meralyn Kirkland, the grandmother of the girl aged six, was shocked her granddaughter Kaia Rolle was arrested because she threw a tantrum at school.
“How do you do that to a 6-year-old child and because she kicked somebody?” Kirkland asked.
“There will be an internal investigation regarding these incidents,” a news release from the Orlando Police Department said.
