Oye Lithur blames government for rape case increase

Lawyer and Former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur has blamed government for the increased cases of rape in Ghana.

Speaking to Class FM in Accra, she highlighted that rape crimes has been on the surge under the Nana Addo led government.

“Rape is a big, big issue under the current NPP government…We have an increase in rape cases,” she said.

She further cited that the government under John Dramani Mahama put in place policies that were meant to curb a lot of such crimes against women.

“Whenever NDC is in power, women get the maximum benefit,” she added.

Nana Oye Lithur is a Ghanaian barrister and politician. She was the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection in Ghana from 2013 to 2017, appointed by President John Mahama after the Ghanaian general election. She is a member of the National Democratic Congress.
