Angry Ghanaians who use public transportation are calling on the Transportation Minister to meet with transport unions in a bid to have them consider a much needed reduction in transportation fares.
Weeks ago, transportation unions increased prices citing increased fuel prices and their loss of revenue due to social distancing rules enforced in taxis and trotro.
During the President’s 14th address to the nation since the COVID-19 pandemic, he eased the restrictions on commercial vehicles and encouraged them to return to picking up their original number of passengers while still observing COVID-19 protocols.
Even though the number of passengers have increased, fares have not decreased and this has left many passengers agitated as they feel they are being cheated. At some lorry stations, passengers and bus drivers were involved in scuffles & other drivers refused to pick up passengers who were not willing to pay the transport union fares.
