The Electoral Commission of Ghana after a case won at the Supreme Court have began the new voter register compilation today with a lot of eligible voters out in numbers to register.
The quest for who wins the General elections on December 7, 2020 is on however there has so far been chaos at some registration centres as most persons queuing are not adhering to COVID-19 protocols with a greater number not wearing nose masks with other not observing social distancing with the queues formed.
There are reports coming from the Eastern Region in Oda that biometric devices which is a key tool in registering voters were broken down causing unrest among voters in the queues.
The exercise is being held in some 6788 clusters made up of five registration centres each across the country.
It will be conducted in 5 phases, each phase spanning 6 days with additional days for mop-up.
The commission assures it will maintain strict health protocols to protect registrants against the deadly COVID -19 disease.
Over 44,000 registration officers have been recruited for the mass voter registration exercise beginning Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
