The Ridge Hospital is facing another alleged case of medical negligence. Fortunately, this time around, the victim is alive to tell her harrowing story. A woman known as Mary Mensah narrated the story of how a huge towel was left in her abdominal cavity after a scheduled cesarean section.
According to the woman, she had a successful caesarean surgery and was discharged the next day with her baby. The next day, she began vomiting and was rushed to the hospital she frequented during the period when she required antenatal services. The hospital then referred her back to the Ridge hospital and this was how her 9 months journey of travelling between these hospitals started. She went on to say that she had found it difficult sleeping on one side of her body for all those months.
She went back to the Ridge Hospital on various occasions but was eventually told on her last visit 9 months after her surgery that they could no longer be involved with her case because of the time that had elapsed.
Finally, when she could no longer take the pain, swelling and foul scented vomit, she reported to the Rock Hospital where she was asked to have an x-ray scan done. The scan showed there was a foreign item and she then underwent another surgery to find out what it was. The surgeon and nurses discovered that a towel had been left during the surgery she had at Ridge hospital and was the cause of her discomfort.
Amazingly, after the corrective surgery at the Rock hospital, the surgeon who conducted the caesarean section at the Ridge hospital advised her to ignore the case because it will be a financial drain on her and her husband.
