In what has been described as an “insensitive” tweet by many, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi is all over social media.
He posted a cartoon which appeared to jab the sitting government and the Electoral Commission of Ghana in their quest to push for a new voters’ register. The cartoon depicted a scene from the recent murder of Black American George Floyd who was suffocated to death by some officers in the Minneapolis Police force.
Reactions from Twitter and Facebook were all against his post as many called for him to delete with others reporting his handle for his “insensitive” comic post.
We are dealing with two pandemic in Ghana right now COVID19 and Sammy Gyamfi 😓

Sammy Gyamfi used this in protest of the new voters register and it didn't go well, he explained the narrative; this is not to mock George Floyd" but Sammy, you shouldn't have used it at all cos how painfully George died in this mode will stirs in all manner of anger regardless🤦🏿♂️ https://t.co/QE8Qynsl6p

Sammy Gyamfi responded to all the criticisms with a post on his Facebook wall and said the cartoon doesn’t mock the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd or seek to exploit same for political capital in any way.
