Marissa Mowry, 28, started repeatedly sexually abusing the boy when he was just 11 years old. The boy, who is now 17, takes their son to school before heading to his own classes.
DETAILS OF THE CASE
The paedophile nanny who raped the 11-year-old boy and gave birth to his child has been jailed for 20 years. The court reports state that Marissa Mowry, 28, sexually assaulted the boy at least 15 times while living under the same roof as him.
Mowry, then 20, was hired as a live-in nanny on the recommendation of the victim’s aunt.
The child predator had his son in October 2014 after getting pregnant in January the same year. Even after giving birth, Mowry continued to sexually abuse the boy until he was 14.
The victim’s mum thought Mowry’s baby was fathered by her boyfriend, but a DNA test confirmed it was the boy.
Mowry claimed he had forced himself on her, but detectives got to the truth in a taped phone call with the youngster.
The nanny was arrested in June 2017 outside Busch Gardens theme park in Tampa, where she worked as a waitress.
She was held on a string of charges of sexual battery of a child.
The abuse was exposed when the victim told his mum what had happened at their home in the US city of Brandon, Florida. He sat in court as Mowry was locked up on Thursday.
Handcuffed Mowry, branded a sexual predator by Judge Laura Ward, did not speak during her sentencing.
The rapist must also complete 10 years of sex offender probation when she is released.
AFTERMATH OF THE ORDEAL
The victim, now 17, lives with the five-year-old son he had with Mowry. The young father is raising the child with the help of his own mother. He is doing his best to be a dad while finishing school.
The victim’s mum told local TV station Spectrum 9 News after the sentencing hearing:
I thought of her almost as a second daughter. To think of my son as more than a child? I mean, we’re talking about a child who was 11.”
The victim’s mum said at the time that she felt “betrayed” and “stupid” after everything her son had been through.
She felt guilty for not discovering the abuse sooner.
The victim’s mum said after the case that the responsibility of fatherhood had limited her son’s life.
Describing him as an “amazing” dad, she said he could not hang out with pals after school because he had to care for his son.
And girlfriends were out because “who wants to date a 17-year-old who has a five-year-old?”
