-Kebbi State, Nigeria

The Police Command in Nigeria has arrested a father and his three wives for allegedly placing the man’s 11-year-old son in chains in an animal stall for two whole years.

The boy, who is named Jibril Aliyu, began being maltreated by his stepmothers when his mum died 2 years ago. His stepmothers along with the boys father denied him of proper care for his general health and medical condition.

Jibril had been chained with livestock of the family and is reported to have barely survived by eating the leftovers of the animals’ food. According to rescuer (Manir), the poor boy sometimes had to eat his own excrement to ward of hunger.

Manir added that, the maltreatment from Jibril’s family had left him with animal tendencies. The boy is now in the hospital and responding to treatment.

The Public Relations Officer(PPRO) of the command, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, confirmed the arrest of the boy’s father and stepmothers to newsmen

He said:

“Yes our men have arrested a father to an 11-year-old, Jibrin Aliyu, and three wives for allegedly chaining the boy for over two years.

Our men arrested the suspects on Sunday in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, and the boy is at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital as the investigation is still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind chaining the boy in animal stall for that period.”

An elder brother to the victim, Bilal, who only shares a father with Jibril denied all claims of maltreatment and declared that his little brother was only chained to keep him from wondering during the day due to his epilepsy. Bilal claims their father at one point in time sold his house and car to fund the unsuccessful  treatment of Jibril’s epilepsy.

Aliyu added that, the chaining up of Jibril had not gone on for more than a year.

Below is evidence detailing Jibril’s rescue.
