Two Ghanaian Police officers have been captured in a video which shows them whipping a suspect with various objects.
Ghanaians on social media are have expressed unbelief the Police after watching the video.
The two officers have been identified as General Sergeant Patrick Amoako and General Lance Corporal Isaac Marfo.
CONTENTS OF THE VIDEO
The video shows two policemen (stationed at the Koforidua Railway Police Station) hitting the alleged thief with a belt and a strip of a bicycle tyre.
The suspect was stripped down to his underwear-boxers, and handcuffed. He tortured by the policemen who hoped they could get him to confess to the crime he was accused off.
According to reports, the alleged suspect was accused of stealing an amount of GH¢1,600.
DETAILS OF THE CASE
The suspect, whose name is only given as Dodzi admitted to taking GH¢350.00 from his boss’ car but denied stealing stealing the GH¢1,600. Even after the suspect confessed, the policemen continued to severely torture him and expose him to beatings.
Alegbe Daniel, father of the suspect told the media that the police had detained his son from Friday, September 27 to Tuesday, October 1 after assaulting him.
ACTION AGAINST THE OFFICERS
Acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, has directed that immediate action be taken against the two police officers who were spotted in the video.
