Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay and signee of Runtown Records took to Twitter to complain about the Food and Drugs Authority’s decisions that affect the income of celebrities.
According to the songstress, she lost a deal worth thousands of dollars she was supposed to earn from a ‘foreign alcohol company’ due to the restrictions of the F.D.A.
I just lost a deal worth 1000s‘ of dollars with this foreign alcohol company..I didn’t know in GH Celebrities can’t advertise for alcoholic beverages according to FDA
Like Seriously?!
Small food we go chop too u wan take 4rm our mouth
Gh celebs wake up !!FDA Lift dat ban!!— Queen Shay (@wendyshaygh) January 16, 2020
The Twitter account of the FDA gave a reply to Wendy Shay’s demands. The response basically said, F.D.A rules indicate that, no well-known personality or celebrity is allowed to (be used to) advertise any alcoholic products
Dear @wendyshaygh, the guidelines on the advertisement of food states clearly that no well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertising.

Other Twitter users also had their opinions which mainly sided with the artiste or the F.D.A.
That ban sef no dey make sense give me if dem advertise or dem no advertise if we go buzz we go buzz. It's our decision not yours. You can ban them from advertising but you cant ban the customers from purchasing it. 🗣🗣🗣GROW UP FDA!!!

It is not because of adults since that can’t be stopped. It’s for the sake of kids as they tend to imitate what these celebs do ignorantly.

The FDA in another reply implied that, the decision was not to prevent them (artistes) from make money, but to protect children from imitating what they do and the effects of alcohol.
no be say @fdaghana dey want take food from your mouth but we dey protect the young ones who idolise you from the effects of alcohol abuse.
